Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern Reviews Monroe WI
Reviews of Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern Monroe WI

This Monroe Wisconsin's pride and joy. An historic bar, restaurant and cheese store. Two brothers own this gem and have continued the tradition of showing off their social responsibility and good naturalness by taking a quarter, a tack and a $ bill, tossing them at the ceiling and if it works, the tack hold the bill to the ceiling while the quarter drops back into their hand. The money is collected periodically and donated to a local charity. The second best chili is awesome as are all sandwiches. All served with a slice of local brick cheese.

Came here at the suggestion of our tour guide at the National Historic Center for Cheese Making. After the tour our family (2 adults, 3 kids ages 17-11) were all hungry for some cheese. We ordered the large cheese plate, various sandwiches, and even dessert. Everything was delicious! Well…almost…our tour guide warned us about Limburger cheese…so I went for it…I should have asked for a sample! WOW that’s some STRONG CHEESE!
Anyway, it’s a cozy spot. Our family is road-tripping back to Massachusetts, and between The Cheese Museum and Baumgartner’s Monroe, WI was WELL WORTH the stop between Madison, WI and Toledo, OH.

Beautifully done very busy weekend crowd.
Organized chaos with excellent Wisconsin hospitality.
Amazingly clean with customer focused staff & a delectable selection of truly affordable local cheeses.
Worth another visit as the weather improves! :)

Without question the best place for a drink in Monroe. And now with great food! Such a comfy, welcoming atmosphere and staff. Don't forget to donate a $ to the ceiling!

Amazing! Brought my Uncle in from Florida for the first time and he was floored by our server's knowledge on the history of the restaurant. Food was delicious and the service was top-notch. Don't change a thing!
