Given how good everyone said their food and experience was, I really wish I could give Café Kalawe a higher rating. I treated a friend to breakfast here one morning because we had time to kill. I liked the coffee because it wasn't painfully hot and didn't have the sour taste that seems to come with overdone coffee. My friend ordered a chocolate chip pancake and I ordered my usual for this kind of place, a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. The pancake came with the chocolate chips on top (not bad, just unusual), and the waffle did not come with the strawberries but I was too afraid to ask for them, or for the syrup the server said she'd bring. I only stopped her for knives because it looked like she was already holding them. I might come back to try something different if someone else is paying. But remember, kids: Tip AT LEAST 20%, no matter the service. Your waitstaff is not getting enough to live off of from their wages alone. EDIT: I found out Cafe Kalawe changed management. My father knew the guy who opened the cafe, and it was family-owned. That isn't the case anymore.

So glad we didn't give up finding this place. No outside signage, but look for the bank -- the restaurant is in the inner courtyard. Delicious pancakes and waffles. My husband loved the wun tun min noodle soup. Staff is so friendly and service was fast.

Lovely little gem of a breakfast or lunch spot. They had well shaded outdoor seating. The food was really tasty and a great value. The staff was super friendly and took care of both my wife and I and our kids. If we lived locally we would come here all the time. But if you are a tourist and need breakfast and lunch near this part of Oahu; this is a great choice that won't break the bank.
