We showed up around 5:30 pm anticipating a great meal and prepared to spend a good deal of money. The restaurant was half empty. We were informed by a disinterested hostess that there would be an hour wait. When I pointed out that there were many empty tables, I was informed that this restaurant accepts reservations and I could wait in the bar area.
Our reception there felt snobbish so we took our money elsewhere. No way you can tell me that a half empty restaurant would completely 'fill up' in the next hour.

Driving from Iowa to Washington and stopped in Box Elder for the night. Saw the restaurant on maps nearby and figured we'd give it a try. Walked in around 530 PM and told it would be few minutes so decided to sit at the bar. Great idea. Kelsey the bartender was outstanding, always in motion waiting on everyone sitting at the bar and also making drinks for the rest of the patrons. We opted to skip appetizers (buy one get one 1/2 price during happy hour and they were tempting including the meat skewer) and went straight to our main course, large prime rib with baked potato for me and smaller filet with bacon wrapped asparagus for my wife. Both entrees were cooked to perfection and sides were great. Ordered the apple crisp with ice cream to go. All in all a great meal and worth staying outside Rapid City.

Looking for a really great steak on vacation and they were conveniently located just across from our hotel.
Fry bread was delicious, especially the butter spread. Steak and prime rib a bit overcooked but tasted good, the loaded mashed potatoes and wedge salad were fantastic. Prices were higher than the online menu but we weren't too surprised as everything is trending upwards. Staff were pleasant but it took quite a while to pay our bill. Usually that is just fine but we were trying to get to our hotel to check in. Nice atmosphere and loved that it wasn't loud even though it was pretty busy. Called as soon as they opened at 4 and was able to make reservations for 5:30 and I was glad we did!

We love to visit Rapid City and this is our “must do” tradition for the last night in town. The food, the atmosphere…it’s a great place. The lamb chops, the walleye appetizer, and the chislic are our favorites! The fry bread they serve each table is heavenly. Our kids always go for Buffalo burgers. We love Dakotah Steakhouse and will happily continue our tradition!

Forgot to take photos before starting to dig in so photos don't look all put together but everything was delicious. 😋 We had Buffalo Skewers with Asian Dipping Sauce for Appetizer and a Bacon Wrapped Buffalo Filet with Mashed Potatoes and Balsamic Carrots. Our server Marcus was very personable and made great recommendations. If you ever in South Dakota (Rapid City Area) make sure to pay this Steakhouse a visit because you simply won't regret it.
