I was in a rush one evening but called ahead to order some food. They told me it’d be ready in 15-25 minutes so I got there right at 25 minutes to quick run in, grab my food, and be on my way. My food wasn’t ready for another 25 minutes after I got there and I was pretty frustrated since I had a meeting to be at.
In most situations, restaurants completely drop the ball. I knew the Tavern had good food and service, which is why I go there, but with so many other restaurants in Fargo to choose from a poor experience like this would keep me from coming back for a while.
HOWEVER, the Tavern surprised me. When the hostess finally brought my food out she said she’d already talked to the manager and they were giving me the meal completely free. (A $27 tab, which is no small thing for me.) I waited a few days to post this review to make sure the charge actually dropped from my bank account; and it did. So, way to go Tavern. You compensated incredibly well for your mistake and left me speechless as I walked out the door, and wanting to come back for more. Also, kudos to the hostess for actually being aware of my situation to do something like that. You guys are doing good things there.

The service was great, the food was great and I have a new favorite "sit-down" restaurant in town. The owners should be proud of their employees. They were clean and efficient and it seemed like they were proud to work there. Quality.
There is no dress code but out of respect I would dress up! :p

We're really liking this place. But call ahead or you might get sat in 106 or 107 and if they do that you're better off sitting at the bar! What a stupid place to fit two more booths the first time we ate here I'd never been so uncomfortable in my life having everyone who entered the restaurant inspect me and what I was eating.

My mom and I enjoyed a lovely dinner and Maggie was the most amazing server!! We were so incredibly grateful for her kindness and attentiveness. She truly made our day! The Tavern is one of our favorite restaurants and we will definitely be requesting to have Maggie as our server for our future visits - she is the best!!

There must be something I’m missing about the Tavern, but I don’t get it. I’ve been here four times and received what could be called “decent” service once. The last time was just a pickup order and upon entering, I wasn’t greeted by either of the two hosts, who both just sort of stared at me before I initiated the conversation. I then gave them my name and they gave me my food and said absolutely nothing. No thank you, no have a good night, just complete silence. Multiple people in a hosting position…who didn’t want to speak… interesting.
Not even close to the most interesting (worst) experience though. That involves making a reservation online, waiting a half hour before even heading to the Tavern, then being told it will be a half hour upon arrival. No big deal. We figured they would under promise and over deliver with wait times, which is obviously the host standard in the restaurant industry. Nope. After 45 minutes, we ask for a follow up. They assured us a big group of 20 had just cancelled their reservation and we would be the next in. 15 more minutes, we ask again, telling them to at this point just split up our smaller group reservation into two groups, we just want to eat, we’re hungry. Sure thing they say…another 15 minutes and more groups of 2-4 are seated, who arrived after us. Finally after 90 minutes, we are finally seated. Nothing like making a night out of one meal for 3+ hours with just one hour at the actual table.
The food, while slightly better than Applebees, isn’t good enough here to deal with this kind of service.
