This is my favorite Italian restaurant hands down! The food was beyond amazing, the drinks were spectacular, and the service was the service was awesome.. 2 story restaurant. The bottom floor had more of an old world feel, and a bit more contemporary upstairs. I highly recommend the small plates with the cheese sampler. We did the choose 3 for $18 And enjoyed every single dish.

2019 Review: The food is amazing, the prices are fair, and the atmosphere is cozy. My fiance and I go here twice a year for special events and the wait staff treats us well. Neither of us speak Italian so we bucher the names of most of the meals on the menu and they happily help us along. This is now our restaurant of choice when we a night out. 2021 Update: My hubby and I went for our anniversary. Awesome food, amazing service. We had 2 waiters in our section that made our night, Abigail and Cameron. They were so kind and had the perfect suggestions for food and drinks. If you don't want wine, get a cocktail... they are low priced but tastes expensive. Overall best visit to Massimo's in the last 4 years we've been going.

I went on open table to make a reservation for Saturday night June 4th but 5:15 was the only available time. I called the restaurant to see if they had any later times but was told only 5:00pm was available and I would have to leave the table by 6:30. I said that open table has 5:15 with no time limit and was told they could do 5:15 but I would have to leave by 6:45pm. I should have known this was not a good start. My wife's entree came out incorrectly and they had to remake it. My entree then became cold while I waited for hers to arrive. The waitress did offer to "reheat" mine but I did not choose to have it "reheated". The owner I believe (he did not identify him as such but was told he was the owner) stopped at our table at the end of the meal to see how things were. I told him things were "alright" and that seemed to be OK with him. There was no offer of something complementary or a price reduction or anything. Apparently the restaurant must do well because there are many good reviews and I admit the food and service were very good. Being fairly new residents to Portsmouth, I am glad to have tried it out first since we were planning a family dinner there this summer. Obviously, we will go somewhere else for the family dinner and as for ourselves we will not be going back. There are too many restaurants that care about the customers experience to choose from.
