Beautiful setting. Very good food. First time we were there is was called the Kapalua Bay Club. It was good then and will still be good hopefully in the near future. We've been going once per Maui visit over the last 40 years. Great memories. Will keep going until we get too old to travel. To us, the epitome of special, casually elegant tropical dining. But this last visit unfortunately left us disappointed and feeling somewhat taken advantage of. Due to Covid, Merriman's has moved a large part of its operation to outdoor covered wooden decks. Thus, we were relegated to wood floors (that flexed as people walked by), wooden picnic tables, marginally uncomfortable wicker seats, no table cloths and no beautiful views and a limited menu. Though our server Grace was outstanding in every way, the ambiance was no where near the same as before. It was like eating in a closed-in back yard. Nevertheless, with one cocktail and one glass of wine per person we somehow managed to spend every bit as much if not more than usual, but without being able to enjoy the customary amenities. Disappointing.

I'm not a foodie, so take this review with a grain of salt. However, I really appreciate how attentive Merriman's are to timing and portions of meals. After three or four courses of very good food (including dessert), we did not feel too full. The waitstaff was kind and attentive, although more professional than friendly. This is an upscale place, so expect to feel a little intimidated if you're not used to the setting. However, they do a good job (for better or worse) of seating the two classes of clientele together. If you look the part, you'll sit in the main area. If you're kind of a slob, expect to be placed on the patio. The only weird thing about this place is the bathrooms. At this level, I would expect them to be nicer, larger, and cleaner. Instead, they felt like a hallway that leads to the kitchen in a cheap brunch place. Still, you'll be hard-pressed to find a three-course dinner spot with a more beautiful outdoor setting or view on Maui.

This was one of the best meals and experiences we had on our honeymoon on Maui. Brandy was our waitress and she was awesome and so friendly. She brought us a champagne toast right when we sat down, such a thoughtful touch. Food and service were 10/10. Live music was also great and he was taking requests. He played our first dance song and it was really special! The view is so wonderful and open air. This is a must do when you visit Maui!
