We called ahead to make a reservation and we’re fortunate enough that they could accommodate 7 people on short notice. We were even delayed due to bus reroutes but they held our reservation after I called them. Server was nice and the atmosphere is quaint. Everyone enjoyed their meal but we did have one person who received their entree much later than everyone else and we had to bring this to the attention of 2 different staff members. I think this is a result of the staffing shortage since it appeared that there was only one waiter for the establishment. I had the salmon piccata. The salmon was a huge portion and cooked perfectly. Also their house Chardonnay was a nice compliment to the salmon.

Great service, beautiful view, and exceptional cuisine! Definitely try the fresh oysters, and ask about the local catches. It wasn't busy while I was there, but I expect they're just as friendly when the crowds show up. I have become accustomed to exorbitant prices for good food in San Francisco, but Betty Lou's was very reasonably priced. This should make your list of places to eat in North Beach... in San Francisco!

Food and service staff was fine. Waiters were friendly. The problem was the hostess. Before being seated, the hostess sort of vaguely pointed at a table… And was generally not very welcoming in her body language. We had dropped by for some oysters before dinner during a family trip to San Francisco. They didn’t have fries for my toddler so we just ordered oysters and beer at 3-4pm. They brought out bread so my toddler was eating it. He loves carbs like any other child his age. The hostess came and asked if we were ordering other food, we said no. She left… then came back and took the plate of bread my toddler was eating… without saying a word! we would have gladly paid if that’s what she wanted but the move was so passive aggressive and odd that we decided to just leave as soon as possible. I can only assume her initial reaction was that we were an Asian couple. She behaved similarly towards a table of Asian girls seated after us.
