Updated: 11/14/2021. Returned to Max's after a long Covid delay. Everything is still wonderful. My husband had a steak that beats out all the local (and chain) steak houses. This was his pick for dinner after the 1/2 marathon and we all pleased. Fresh, inventive and thoughtfully prepared options. (end update). Always fantastic. If you are visiting downtown and looking for a "can't miss" option, this is it. Breakfast (Brunch), Lunch, or Dinner. We've even eaten Thanksgiving there! Wonderful and thoughtful food. The seafood is great - but the burger's are worth the price too. Great atmosphere. Everything you expect at this price point was done perfectly. Highly recommended as a go-to Downtown Richmond spot. Perfect for dinner before a concert or a play.

Service was slow, food was OK, cocktails OK, recommended a high end scotch intended to be enjoyed neat, ordered neat and it was served over ice (even though the bartender recommended it, he added ice which diluted out ALL of the flavor and complexity.) Was hoping for a better experience given the cost. Maybe they are having trouble staffing. Idk. I hope they work it out, because I could really see myself going back if they got it together.

They deserve 5 stars for the food and atmosphere and 10 stars for service. The host who fit us in and our server, Mark, were fantastic. Thanks so much, guys! Great place!
